Charcol Mortgage

Bradford & Bingley's Charcol mortgage site makes it easy to compare mortgages from different lenders, and it provides key information – rates, redemption penalties and so on – without making you wade through endless forms. You can search for fixed or discount mortgages, first time buyer mortgages, buy to let and tracker mortgages, among others.

The name might not be familiar, but the Charcol mortgage site is from the rather better-known Bradford & Bingley. There's a good range of products – first time buyer mortgages, buy to let, trackers and so on – and rates are low: at the time of writing, you could get a Charcol mortgage with an APR of just 4.6% or 5.7% for a fixed rate mortage. The firm is a broker rather than a direct seller, so you'll be directed to products from well known firms such as Scottish Widows and the high street banks.

The Charcol mortgage site manages to cram a lot of information into its pages, with details of current best buys, a payment calculator and a link to the site's comprehensive help section. Charcol will even put you in touch with an independent financial advisor if you need some extra help.
