Mortgage customers are continuing to seek whole-of-market advice, one industry expert has asserted.

David Elms, chief executive of Unbiased.co.uk, made his comments after the financial services provider issued new figures suggesting that mortgage enquiries from first-time buyers rose to 43 per cent of all consumer requests in July.

He stated that the number suggest that there is "regained interest" from such consumers who are thinking about entering the property market for the first time.

"Many first-time buyers who are in the process of scoping the market to see whether they are able to get on the property ladder are also seeking a whole of market mortgage adviser," Mr Elms concluded.

In recent days, the company issued research which indicated that nearly a quarter (23 per cent) of people are puzzled by the "mortgage maze", which has had an impact on consumers' confidence in taking out a mortgage deal without obtaining professional advice.
