The range of Post Office mortgages available to consumers means there is something for everyone, according to a source at the company.

Mike Cook, head of mortgages at the financial services provider, made his remarks after the firm carried out a poll to see which interior design trends are least popular.

The top three least-liked fashions were Artex walls, avocado bathrooms and woodchip walls.

Mr Cook claimed that such designs might be putting off certain buyers, but this is not an issue with Post Office mortgages, since there is something available to suit all sorts of applicants.

He added: "Making improvements to your home before you put it on the market can make all the difference between a forever lingering 'for sale' sign and sealing the deal."

Last month, the Post Office launched several new home finance propositions, including a fee-free two-year fixed-rate deal at 4.25 per cent interest and a two-year tracker arrangement at 4.69 per cent.
