The National Landlords Association (NLA) has highlighted how property letters are still worried about government spending cuts.

David Salusbury, chairman of the industry body, made his comments after the organisation's NLA Conference in London.

He also noted that access to finance and direct payment of housing benefits are two other issues that continue to trouble landlords.

In his opinion, the event was very successful, particularly thanks to the participation of keynote speaker Neil McDonald, who is the director of the housing management, homelessness and support directorate within Communities and Local Government.

"The conference was an excellent opportunity to put these concerns directly to a government representative and the NLA will continue to lobby on these issues," said Mr Salusbury.

Last month, director of regions at the institution Barry Markham welcomed the state's proposals on housing benefits, which he said allow for extra help for tenants.

He went on to call for the government's support on the issue of paying housing benefit straight to landlords when it will help a resident retain a tenancy.
