Mortgage providers and potential homeowners would probably welcome a Conservative party win in the upcoming election more than a Labour victory, according to one property source.

David Amstell, founder of Briffy.com, made his remarks after FindaProperty.com revealed that 39.1 per cent of people looking for a mortgage believe that the housing market situation would be improved by the Tories getting into power.

He explained: "So a change of government – even if it was the other way round – would make people feel like something positive is happening. I suspect that probably would be the case."

Despite the possibility of a Conservative party win helping the housing market to improve, Mr Amstell highlighted how a big issue right now is funding, with more restrictions in place before people can get hold of money.

He also pointed out that there a change of government is not affecting the mortgage sector as much as the lack of high loan-to-value products.
