Moving home may become a little cheaper for homeowners thanks to a new law change implemented by the Conservative-Liberal Democrat government.

This is the view of housing minister Grant Shapps, who made his comments after it was announced that home movers will no longer have to pay £22 for a personal search of the Local Land Charges Register.

He noted that this change in legislation follows on from the scrapping of home information packs and will cut the costs associated with relocation.

"Moving home is difficult and stressful and the new government wants to make it easier," he said.

The Local Land Charges Register gives buyers information about any issues that affect a property, such as protected areas or planning restrictions.

Mr Shapps claimed that freeing up public sector data in this way could benefit the whole economy by increasing competition.

Local government secretary Eric Pickles recently announced that local residents will soon have a say as to whether their council tax increases or not.
