Financial services provider HSBC is set to trial a new in-branch service for people seeking mortgages.

To be rolled out in 19 branches during an initial test period, the service will be called Mortgage Matcher and it is designed to help HSBC customers who have not previously bought their home loan from the bank or who would benefit from a mortgage that HSBC does not currently provide.

The bank will continue to sell its own mortgages via its existing Mortgage Managers, which are available in all its branches.

"This service offers our customers who are less confident in deciphering the right mortgage deal for themselves another reason to talk to us and gives us more options to help them," stated Andy Mielczarek, HSBC's head of retail products.

He added that the service will be on trial for seven months and will be extended if it is successful.

Headquartered in London, HSBC has offices in 86 countries around the world.
