The rise in the number of online searches for property bodes well for a recovering housing market, according to iammoving.com.

Jon Brown, partner relationship manager at the change of address service, said reports of improving economic stability in the UK and news that America is out of recession had encouraged people into feeling that property was a sound investment again.

"With increased lending and less chance of losses as housing prices stabilise, people are returning to the view that renting a house is dead money, whereas owning a home could once again provide security and a return on investment," he said.

Mr Brown commented after Rightmove revealed its site traffic had increased 35 per cent in the four months to October 2009, compared to the same period in 2008.

The housing website also reported that August had been it's busiest-ever month.

These figures accounted by Rightmove reflected those recorded by iammoving.com, who had noted a 30 per cent increase in the number of home moves registered by letting agents on its utilitell.com service during September.
