The National Landlords Association (NLA) has welcomed a government minister onto the panel for its National Conference this year, which it claimed will offer essential advice.

On stage with Ian Austin, the minister in charge of the private rented sector, will be academics and industry professionals at the event in Birmingham in November.

David Salusbury, chairman of the NLA, commented that it was a pleasure to welcome Mr Austin to the conference and he felt sure that many landlords in attendance will have plenty of questions for him.

He said: "Aside from the keynote speakers covering policy and business issues, this year's conference will include interactive sessions covering the practical side of lettings led by experts."

Mr Salusbury pointed out that the letting industry is sure to go through changes in the near future and this event will give landlords the inside track.

A spokesperson for the NLA criticised the new method of paying housing benefit last week, saying that the "system is not working".
