A mortgage support scheme which was rolled out by The Nottingham has been extended due to demand.

The special advisory service, which is aimed at first-time buyers (FTBs), will now run until the end of August.

Under the terms of the initiative, which was launched three months ago, would-be homeowners are encouraged to visit one of The Nottingham's branches in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire to find out which home loans would best suit them.

Lorraine Giddings, divisional head of The Nottingham's branch network, said: "FTBs are the life blood of the property market.

"Yet for a long time, particularly when house prices were rocketing upwards, this important group of people were finding it increasingly difficult to get on the ladder."

The Nottingham recognised this and subsequently introduced the advisory service, she added.

Established in 1849, the Nottingham has branches in a number of counties in England and describes itself as a traditional building society.
