The National Association of Landlords (NLA) has suggested new legislation proposed by George Eustace MP could benefit buy to let mortgage holders.

David Salusbury, chairman of the industry body, highlighted how the comprehensive spending review published last week could lead to greater demand in the private rented sector as a result of changes to social housing and benefits schemes.

Recently, Mr Eustace put forward a private members bill in parliament relating to secure lending reform, which Mr Salusbury claimed could help ensure landlords are treated fairly by financial institutions.

"We support his attempt to ensure that the private rented sector does not become an unseen victim as the country moves to economic recovery," the NLA spokesperson said.

In his opinion, it is disappointing that the issue has not been raised in parliament before now.

The bill was first presented to the House of Commons on June 30th 2010 and received its second reading on October 22nd.
